REFUGEE AND HUMANITARIAN VISA

Australia's refugee and humanitarian programme is an important part of our contribution to the international protection of refugees. It is designed to ensure that Australia can respond effectively to global humanitarian situations and that support services are available to meet the specific needs of these entrants.

Applications are assessed against the criteria of the five subclasses of the Refugee and humanitarian (Class XB) visa.

The offshore component of the Refugee and Humanitarian Programme involves resettlement of people needing humanitarian assistance to Australia who do not have any other durable solution available to them.

Eligible for a refugee category visa?

A person may be eligible for a refugee category visa if they:

  • Are outside Australia.
  • Are subject to persecution in their home country.
