Student Visa

Australian Student Visa allows you to study and work in Australia for a period equal to the duration of your Course plus one month (28 days after the last day of class). You must be over 16 to require this visa.

Student Visa can be associated to:
  • Language Courses (eg: General English, IELTS Preparation et Cambridge, etc).
  • Professional Courses (VET Courses, Vocational Education & Training).
  • Undergraduate Courses (Bachelor degree, Master's and PhD).

The student visa is approved only if combined with an accredited course provided by some Australia's schools. Visa is associated to the confirmation of enrollment (COE = Confirmation Of Enrolment), which identifies starting and ending date of the course. You can combine multiple courses within the same visa, such as a language course and a vocational course. The minimum duration of a related visa course is 12 weeks, maximum is 50 weeks.

Can I work with a Student Visa?

This visa allows you to work legally part time (up to 40 hours every 2 weeks) during courses period and full time during course pauses. Part-time work in Australia (4-5 hours per day) is really well paid and available everywhere: you can cover costs of accommodation, food, transport and still save some money. School schedules will easily combine with your work.

To work you must have a Tax File Number. A bank account for payment processing would be useful too. Both services are provided through GoStudy offices in Australia at no additional cost.

The Student Visa is the only visa that:

  • Lets you easily enter Australia with the possibility to work legally if you have already turned 31 years.
  • Can include family members: spouse and children as dependents. Go Study staff can provide consultancy also for these needs.
  • Allows to enter and work in Australia those who have a high risk passport. (Assessment Level 2, 3, 4)

How does health insurance cover?

Student Visa does not include medical coverage. You can enable medical coverage through our offices before departure. There is a Visa request limit depending on age?

Student Visa doesn't have age limits and can be required several times.

Student Visa can also be a good way to experience short duration study and work experiences without necessarily requesting a Working Holiday Visa, which is only once in a lifetime.

Student Visa (Subclass 500)

From 1 July 2016 the Department of Immigration have streamlined the student visa program into one visa, the subclass 500 Student visa. Student guardians will apply for the new Student Guardian visa (subclass 590).

Those already in Australia on a subclass 570 through to 576 Student visa will remain on these visas until they expire.

This overhaul of the program is part of the government's Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) initiative. This change will provide a single immigration risk framework for the subclass 500 visa, replacing all previous Assessment Level frameworks.

Under the changes, consideration of both the student's education provider and country of citizenship will be used as risk factors to determine the level of evidence of English language and financial capacity that the student needs to provide with their visa application.

Students with the lowest immigration risk will have their application requirements further simplified. A declaration of financial capacity by the applicants and confirmation from their education provider that they have met the English language requirements will be sufficient to meet these requirements.

Students with higher immigration risk will need to meet the financial capacity requirement by either one of the following:

  • Evidence of funds to cover travel to Australia and 12 months' living, course fees;
  • Evidence of meeting the annual income requirement (currently $60,000 or $70,000 if accompanied by parents); or
  • For secondary exchange student only, an Acceptance Advice of Secondary Exchange Students (AASES)  form.

They must also provide adequate test results from an approved English test provider to meet the English test requirement.

Family members must also be declared on the initial student visa application, regardless of whether or not they intend to join the student in Australia at a later stage. Those not declared will not be eligible for the grant of a visa at a later stage. This does not apply to those who became a family member after the student was granted a visa.
